King Tut’s talent booker, Craig Johnston

This month’s guest columnist is King Tut’s talent book, Craig Johnston! He kindly let us in for an insight to the bands we can expect to see make a big name for themselves in 2011.

Stevie and the Moon

2010 was definitely Stevie’s year, he kicked it off by releasing a Mini Album “These Old Traditions” in March, this really took off and he blasted him on to the scene by picking up rave reviews as well as airplay on Radio 1, Radio 2 and 6Music.

After supporting Codeine Velvet Club at Glasgow’s QMU, Stevie went on a tour of Scotland and also got invited for in for a Live Session on Vic Galloway’s Radio One show. The highlight of his career so far came as a complete surprise when he was invited to be the 1st band to play T in the Park 2010, he played a secret show for the Thursday Campers on the Red Bull Bedroom Jam Futures Stage.

After the summer he had an Edge Festival show at the prestigious Edinburgh festival and in September he played to a packed O2 Academy, Glasgow supporting Canadian stars The Barenaked Ladies

His debut single Wolves/Rainbows will be released on the 13th of December.

LightGudies

LightGuides are a trio hailing from Glasgow.. Their musical signature is a blend of intricate guitar work accompanied by creative percussion and accented vocals. The band have always cited influences that range from experimental prog rockers Mogwai to pop punk legends Blink182, thus they have created an uplifting rock sound that is not afraid of quieter, more delicate moments.

The band launched their debut mini-album, “Past and Present” in February of 2010 and have since had the joy of touring the UK and sharing the stage with the likes of: The Xcerts, Frightened Rabbit, The Rocket Summer, Succioperro and Twin Atlantic.

This summer the band made their first appearance at T in the Park playing the T-break stage to an overwhelming crowd of fans and sparking media interest in the national press. They released their new single “The Casting Call” and headlined the prestigious King Tuts in Glasgow to an audience just shy of selling out.

The band are currently writing for their second album which they aim to release at the beginning of 2011. They will also release a new single in November which will be accompanied by a tour of the country.
