Loopy Lorna’s Tearoom

‘Never trust a man who, when left alone with a tea cosy, doesn’t try it on’ – Billy Connolly

Looking for a spot of afternoon tea? With an extensive speciality tea menu consisting of no less than six unique and wacky blends, Loopy Lorna’s is the ideal place for any tea-lover in search of something that little bit different. Each speciality has its own unusual and quirky name to boost appeal to any amateur tea connoisseur – ‘Sparkling Darjeeling’ and ‘Oh my Masala Chai’ are just two examples of these.

Nestled in the heart of busy Morningside, the eccentric teahouse also offers wide range of delicious homemade cakes, which surprisingly taste even better than they look. Stacked high on tradition cake stands they look more like exclusive pieces of modern art than fondant treats.

Loopy Lorna's delicious cakes

Although the café resembles that of a traditional teahouse, the unique and quirky décor is what really makes it standout. With unusual wallpaper dressing the walls, oversized vintage cake stands and tea pots covered in funky tea cosy’s scattered on the tables, you would be forgiven for expecting the Mad Hatter and the March Hare to sit down at the table next to you and start chatting erratically about unbirthdays and unanswerable riddles.

The teahouse is warm and inviting and boasts a welcoming family feel. Loopy Lorna’s is run by a small group of talented workers: owner Gaynor Gibson reveals that she feels the personalities of her staff outweigh any other desirable qualities when hiring. And she believes that sincere, friendly service can really make or break a business, “Staff are chosen for their warm personalities rather than experience as I believe you can train but you can’t give someone that special something that makes a person genuine and a joy to be with.”

The opening of the café has been a long-standing dream of Gibson’s and is named after her Mother, an avid tea lover who sadly died of cancer eleven years ago. Raising money and awareness of the disease is of huge importance to Gibson who promises that Loopy Lorna’s will be hosting ‘a calendar of events to raise money’ for a number of different local charities.

So whether you are a connoisseur of all things tea, or just a keen amateur looking for something that little bit different, Morningside’s own Loopy Lorna’s should fit the bill. And the passionate and friendly staff will make you coming back for more.
